About us

Who we are..

We are a collective of undergraduate chemistry students — thinkers, doers, and leaders — committed to advancing chemical education and promoting scientific curiosity within and beyond the university.

The Chemical Society at the University of Kelaniya is a vibrant academic community that brings together students and staff passionate about chemistry. Our mission is to promote scientific inquiry, encourage the exchange of knowledge, and support research through seminars, workshops, and collaborative events.

By creating a platform for intellectual growth, we empower students to enhance their skills and contribute to meaningful scientific discussions. Rooted in a commitment to academic excellence and innovation, the society plays a vital role in shaping future scientists and enriching the academic environment of the university.

Chemical Society – University of Kelaniya

The Chemical Society of the University of Kelaniya is the largest and most dynamic student-led society within the Department of Chemistry, and across the entire Faculty of Science. Formed with a vision to inspire, engage, and empower chemistry undergraduates, the society plays a key role in enriching the academic and social lives of its members.

We serve as a platform for passionate chemistry students to explore the real-world applications of their field, express creativity through scientific communication, and build lifelong skills in leadership, collaboration, and innovation. From organizing academic workshops, seminars, and research forums to hosting outreach programs, competitions, and community projects — our initiatives are diverse, impactful, and inclusive.

The Department of Chemistry itself has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence. Since the early 1990s, it has continuously expanded its curriculum, introducing advanced areas like nanotechnology, quantum chemistry, and materials science, supported by a team of dedicated researchers and educators. The Chemical Society aligns with this legacy by complementing formal education with active engagement and peer-driven growth.

Despite being a student-led organization, we function with high professionalism, often collaborating with faculty members, alumni, and other student bodies. As we move forward, the Chemical Society remains committed to creating a space where students are not just educated, but truly empowered.
